Neil's Top 4 Spring Tips for Safe Riding
Four crucial tips for getting your riding season off to a safe start:
1. Perform a thorough pre-season inspection of riding gear and your motorcycle. Anything wearing out or torn, lose, leaking, or rusted?... aside from maybe your skills? Perhaps now is a good time to put markers on some key fasteners. Doing so simplifies your mid-season pre-ride inspections if you can walk around and quickly determine if anything has nudged loose.
2. Before going out on the streets, give some consideration to surface conditions. Is there still loose sand and gravel everywhere? Have you been seeing giant potholes on your way to and from the office or grocery store? Make some mental notes.
3. Find a place to practice and re-familiarize yourself with your bike. Especially focusing on slow-speed maneuvers.
4. When you do get out there, leave lots of room between yourself and the person in front of you, thereby avoiding surprise surface changes, and remember, the caged drivers (that's all of us in Saskatchewan in the "off-season", unfortunately) are not used to looking for bikes. Be as visible and as alert as possible.

These do go back a long way and I'm not certain who was the creator and who was the licensee vs. the licencor but one would assume there were license agreements in place so the term "ripped" would not likely apply. It was during an era long before people just downloaded stuff and slapped their name on them. At that time, like today, many safety associations were working together to craft and distribute messaging.

@@fonziebulldog5786 please use both brakes. I've been riding for 3 years and you're endangering your self and overworking one brake wearing it out quickly and overheating it on a crooked road. Both brakes go on at same time. Back heavier then front at first then as you start to slow apply more to front.

This guy is probably dead now and should not have ever been on motorcycle much less a moped the motorcycle has both front and back breaks for a reason and are ment to be used. And if you can't use both systems without going down then you are the one that's in need of a riders course before you die and whats worse before you traumatize all the people that will have to watch you kill and possibly kill or injure others for getting on a motorcycle that you clearly had no business being on and I hate to tell you bud but the back brakes alone will lay a bike down quicker then the front will anyday I hope to God that you don't have a wife or kids that you put on the back of the bike with you because you are dangerous and clearly have no skills for safely riding and having control over the bike and accident avoidance all I can say is when you do crash I hope you 1 just have a minor one and if its a major one that you have a painless death that is quick and I mean that not as wishing anything to happen but we all know with people like you that it's just a matter of time before it happens....

The new 2-minute long video that ends with the car lights going out is confusing and more than a bit demented. It tries to paint a rather long emotive narrative that ends (?) with the car's headlights going out at the moment of proposal (??) and trying to link this "safety hazard" (???) perhaps with not performing a proper vehicle safety-check (?????). The message is totally elusive. Perhaps Saskatchewan's Safety Council doesn't know that when the car is running (when most accidents occur) the lights are powered by the alternator and that almost all car batteries (what powers the lights when the engine is off) are sealed units that the average driver cannot check? There's also not a lot of accidents that occur when a vehicle is parked and off. So again? What's the safety-related message?? This one should have just never got past the conception stage. Confusion and cluelessness do NOT make for a good "Safety Council" message. Just the opposite

Wrong! 1. Roll the earplug between your index finger and thumb. 2. With the opposite hand reach over your head and pull up and back your ear. 3. Insert the narrowed earplug 4. Hold your earplug with your index finger in place until it has expanded. If one of those steps went wrong, no problem repeat it until you feel a real seal. 😉

Ok a few things: - If your using your cell phone "handsfree" through bluetooth or usb should that be considered distracted driving? If your going say that you should have mention drivers should not have conversation with passengers in the car as well. Also I think hands free gps in a car is considerably safer than trying to read street signs while your driving. - Saying you shouldn't operate the climate controls or use the radio while driving is just......well stupid. Can it be distracting? Yes. But if you say we shouldn't use them is overthinking this issue IMO. _ Eating yes. Drinking well that depends. I think only if your using a crew type bottle or something. If your drinking with a straw or using an open cup or a button opening cup/thermos I would say no. - I really don't think everyone is familiar with Saskatchewan's cell phone driving law cause I see people breaking it all the time. You should do a video on it cause A Lot of people don't really pay attention to the news so they don't know when laws come into effect. - Commutes are short in Saskatchewan? Give me a break. I can't count the number of people I know who have to drive into Yorkton everyday never mind Regina or Saskatoon. - Lastly the people who say they've never used a phone in a vehicle are lying or don't have a cell phone. lol
